with the turn of a wheel

It’s summertime, leave your car behind and hop onto your bike! Come and join the cyclists wheeling along from one mountain pass to the next. It’s time to start training and get your calves into shape… The Maurienne offers an great choice of tarmac roads and unpaved tracks. Alternatively, you can just wave your “Ricard” cap as the peloton swishes by and leave the sweating up to the Tour de France champions!

Mountain biking

Test the Vanoise on a mountain bike! There are a number of bicycle trails in this hikers’ sanctuary, and some memorable day trips try out. An opportunity not to be missed as long as you are in good condition.

things to do

starting from Aussois, the dam circuit (“circuit des barrages” - 21 km, very difficult) goes up to the plan d’Amont reservoir. Please take care when cycling back down!
- starting from Termignon, another round trip (11,5 km, very difficult) brings you past the Saint-Antoine Oratory. Be careful on your way downhill here too!
- if you prefer to take things easy, take the wide and winding trail (8km, very easy) from the hamlet of Écot to the Chalets de la Duis and back.

Absolute musts: The Vanoise

It is extremely important to remain vigilant and exercise caution along the riverbanks, even in good weather!

Downstream from any hydroelectric plant (e.g., a dam or power station), water can be released at any moment, without warning, and in a matter of minutes this can result in the covering and submersion of the gravel banks as well as the islands.
