faster, higher, more!

Beware, thrill-induced sweats ahead! Legendary mountain passes, natural alpine walls, summits reaching 3,000 metres in altitude - the Maurienne is full of spectacular sites which are especially suited to extreme sports. From the Grand Arc to the Vanoise and from the Galibier to the Esseillon, the mountainous reliefs encircling the Arc River valley resonate with the exploits of sporting champions and fuel the most ambitious outdoor fantasies. Some people are content to dream their fantasies, but the daring accomplish them here!

Now, Is This at all Reasonable?

Nothing’s better than more! This slogan sums it up as far as this weekend jaunt is concerned. You can start at Aussois or Modane, and then try out various approaches to the Vanoise massif and the Esseillon forts.

things to do

- Discover the Modane forts.
- Go on easy walks or more energetic hikes in the Vanois, starting at the Orgère refuge.

- Take a "via ferrata" from the Diable at the heart of the Esseillon site. Choose from five different routes.
- Visit the Esseillon forts.

It is extremely important to remain vigilant and exercise caution along the riverbanks, even in good weather!
Downstream from any hydroelectric plant (e.g., a dam or power station), water can be released at any moment, without warning, and in a matter of minutes flooding can occur, resulting in the covering and submersion of the gravel banks as well as the islands.
